Imperial German Tank Memorial Badge
Kampfwagen-Erinnerungsabzeichen
The Tank Badge for WWI veterans was instituted on 13 Jul 1921 and awarded to veterans of WWI who served as Commander or crew of a German tank and participated in three armored assaults or was wounded in an armored assault. Service would be in either in an A7V or a Beutepanzer (captured tank in German service). Recipients applied to the Inspectorate of Motorized Troops to receive a certificate; the badge had to be obtained privately.
Juncker produced this Brunswick skull pattern badge circa 1930/s. The center design is an A7V tank crossing a barbed wire entanglement through three grenade bursts.
There were hundreds of medal and badge makers in Germany during the 1920's - 30's and though heavily faked, there are several authentic variations.
